Got CoreOS installed on my home server so I can soon run Docker in CoreOS in KVM in Zones in SmartOS \o/

via Tweetbot for iΟS

@nopzor I have seen that :)
At least to begin with some threshold based alerting would suffice to replace our existing systems

via Twitter for Mac in reply to nopzor

@chrisridd SDC apparently requires 2 servers, 16 GB RAM, etc: github.com/joyent/sdc
I think it’s easier to run Docker in a Linux KVM zone

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to chrisridd

@chrisridd According to this it’s still alpha and apparently requires SmartDataCenter: github.com/joyent/sdc-doc… @jogbert

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to chrisridd

@chrisridd Yeah, I have seen something about that, but I don't know how stable it is yet @jogbert

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to chrisridd

@jogbert Looks nice, although I'm not a big fan of the polling model. I'm more for "fire and forget" UDP packages

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to jogbert

@jogbert Do you also use InfluxDB? And for monitoring? I basically just need some alerting and it would be the perfect setup with Grafana

via Tweetbot for iΟS in reply to jogbert

@jogbert Exactly, and the 2014Q4 branch doesn't hold all the packages. Go 1.4 is for instance required for building InfluxDB

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert It still seems to be 1.3.2 that's the latest version to have been packaged: pkgsrc.joyent.com/packages/Smart…

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert Which ie. has Go 1.3.2 which is from September last year. I can't really be bothered to compile it myself

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert I like zones but the lack of working updated packages is annoying. Jails could perhaps work if I got some better management of them

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert I never really got super fond of jails, perhaps because I didn't use a wrapper? Besides, I would like more experience with Docker

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert Also, just the joy of knowing that I am up to date, without having to hunt down PPAs or other sources of packages is neat

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert I've just grown to like it all around. I have had it on my Hetzner VPS 2.5 years by now, I believe, and haven't had problems :)

via Twitter for Mac

This guide will change your SSH and sudo conf and install PSQL, Redis, Ruby and Node.js without telling you: cabotapp.com/qs/quickstart.…

via Rainbow Stream

@sevanjaniyan Well, at least I should have console access to the server so I can do the OS install manually then ;)

via Rainbow Stream in reply to sevanjaniyan

@sevanjaniyan Correct, I can't open the IDRAC until 9:39 UTC, they tell me

via Rainbow Stream in reply to sevanjaniyan

@sevanjaniyan I was wondering about that, but since they didn't provide any reason for why, I ignored it

via Rainbow Stream in reply to sevanjaniyan

@sevanjaniyan In that case I may have broken the install as I have changed the SSH port and only allow key logins now :P

via Rainbow Stream in reply to sevanjaniyan

@sevanjaniyan Oh, they setup the RAID after the install? That's why they ask you to wait 1 hour after the install with accessing the server?

via Rainbow Stream in reply to sevanjaniyan

I'm trying out the Rainbow Stream CLI Twitter client, it's quite nice and better than most GUI ones on Linux: rainbowstream.org

via Rainbow Stream

@jogbert Exactly, I was wondering why there weren't no recovery tool/console, but I think that's the way to go anyways :)

via Rainbow Stream in reply to jogbert

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@jogbert @sevanjaniyan I think the "classic" box would be enough for me to begin with, right now my virtual server only has a 20 GB disk ;)

via Twitter for Mac in reply to jogbert

@sevanjaniyan @jogbert I was mostly looking for the price of storage and bandwidth compared to ie. S3, but server-grade HW is nice :P

via Twitter for Mac in reply to sevanjaniyan
